The late monumental tombs (Dynasties 25-26) at the Theban necropolis of Assassif and that of the vizier Bakenrenef at Saqqara (reign of Psametik I) are characterized by many extremely interesting similarities. The aim of the present work is to provide an overview of the architecture and decorative program of these "temple tombs", which are presented as the three-dimensional manifestation of a complex and elaborate "rhetorical discourse", in which the protagonist is the deceased, throughout his double metaphorical journey of entry and exit from the afterlife. The analysis of texts, iconography and architectural elements, rich and varied, has allowed us to observe the existence of a dense network of relationships, correspondences and similarities, which on the one hand connects the late tombs to each other, and on the other hand connects them to older monuments, which served - directly or indirectly - as models and sources of inspiration.
