Atlas des productions céramiques en territoire des Ménapiens, Atrébates et Nerviens

The result of an Inrap research project and part of the five-year program of the "Gaule et Mondes Anciens" team at the University of Paris Nanterre (Gama, UMR 7041), with the support of the Service régional de l'archéologie des Hauts-de-France, the Service archéologique du Département du Nord and the Université catholique de Louvain, the Atlas des productions céramiques synthesizes research carried out on pottery factories in three cities of Belgian Gaul (Civitas menapiorum, nerviorum, atrebatum). It clearly shows that it was above all the Atrebatum and Nervian territories that played a major role in the manufacture of ceramics, which were sometimes distributed over hundreds of kilometers, while Menapiorum potteries were less widespread. For the first time on this scale, this book combines field data (geography, geology and structures) with post-excavation information (typology, chronology, macroscopy and petrography, distribution). The authors hope that this tool for archaeologists will facilitate the identification of products, and ultimately contribute to an in-depth analysis of the economic mechanisms of this part of the Empire. This book was coordinated by four researchers specializing in complementary fields: Sonja Willems, project leader, Barbara Borgers, Anthony Ledauphin and Freddy Thuillier.
