The scientific programmes led on the site of Monterfil II, enabled to study a quarter of Fanum Martis called nowadays Corseul, quarter where the main activities were bases on economy and crafts. These researches helped to collect an important number of artefacts and to understand better the part of the Coriosolite capital. Consequently, it was possible to follow the evolution of ceramics from first tracks of occupation covering the augustean period till the destruction of the quarter at the beginning of the fourth century.
Twenty-one samples including a corpus of 21 000 fragments of ceramics (180 000 being picked up on the site), were analysed through the definition of ceramic categories and the counting methods, so that we can figure out the pottery used during the gallo-roman period.
As there were differences and resemblances in the samples, they were divided into five great horizons. Then it was possible to propose a plan of evolution of the different categories, to present a typological collection for each of the distinguished chronological periods, to identify the great currents of importations and finally to make comparisons with towns or neighbouring regions.
This research, which deepens our knowledge about the ancient ceramics of Corseul, cannot be taken for granted. It is an introduction, a base for thought on the coriosolite pottery. It has to be more developed through new contexts, which could validate or not the foreseen propositions.
